Where it all began.

The first Speedrite energizer was developed in 1938 in rural New Zealand by the late Herbert Christie as a means of containing livestock. Herb was frustrated with the cost and maintenance required with conventional wire fencing and so sought to find an answer to the problem. Building his own farm machinery was a hobby for Herb, and it wasn't long before he came upon an idea for containing livestock: with an electrified wire.

The idea was sound, but he needed a suitable power source and a way of sending intermittent pulses of energy so as to be non-lethal to the animal! The voltage he needed on the fence to contain a large animal was eventually found in the coil of a Model T Ford. To complete the process he needed a means of controlling the speed and timing of each electrical pulse, which he soon found in the form of a ball bearing and a metal track. After trialing several varying degrees of slope, the speed was right and a new company was born - Speedrite!

After 40 years of development and field testing in some of the harshest farming country in the world, the rugged back country farms of New Zealand, Speedrite began exporting in the 1980's and by 1996, the Speedrite system was being sold in over 40 countries worldwide!

Today Speedrite is truly a global brand. Most energizers produce sufficient voltage when the fence is clear, but installing as soon as grass or even animals come in contact with the fence, the voltage drops dramatically and to a level that cannot control even the most well trained animals.
